With cascading tendrils of lilac, violet and blue, wisteria is an innately romantic vine and flower. In full bloom, it can look almost otherworldly – like something out of a childhood fairytale. However, while it may only bloom in technicolour for a few weeks a year, the meticulously maintained Wisteria Courtyard at Potters offers couples celebrating their wedding or engagement a gorgeous natural canopy regardless of the season.

With dramatic changes from month to month, our wisteria is like a living piece of art.

Depending on the year, it’s usually late spring (October/November) when the vine erupts into colour. This is when you’ll see the magical, storybook Wisteria blooms and smell their divine perfume. For obvious reasons, this is a particularly busy time for bookings at Potter’s, with couples booking long in advance for the chance to catch the wisteria in full bloom on their big day.

As the Spring colours fade, the vine remains lush and green, providing cool shade on those hot summer days. At this time of year during February and March the hanging seed pods are like an art installation in themselves, delicately descending from the canopy.

When autumn rolls around during April and May, the leaves turn a stunning golden hue, casting a warm glow on the courtyard that is every wedding and events photographers dream! Even throughout it’s dormancy in winter, the twisted Wisteria vine is like a rustic sculpture letting in the midday sun and providing a gorgeous dappled light.

The Wisteria Courtyard is a breathtaking space for your wedding ceremony. Spacious and accommodating, the courtyard can easily host larger guest lists and regardless of the season, provides a beautiful backdrop for exchanging vows.

We’ve celebrated love in all its wonderful diversity in the courtyard! From traditional Western ceremonies to elaborate Sri Lankan mandaps, each wedding has brought it’s own unique magic to this space.

Beyond its visual splendour, the Wisteria Courtyard is a supremely versatile event space. Ceremonies aside, It’s an ideal spot for guests to mingle and sip on champagne before the reception. It can also play host to specialty vendors like a gelati van, coffee or cocktail cart
and it might even be the place that you and your new husband or wife choose to take your first dance together.

Depending on the time of year, and your personal tastes, the styling options for the courtyard are just as versatile as the space itself. During spring and summer, simplicity is the key to achieving the ultimate lush look. Minimal, neutral-toned furniture and tablescapes allow the natural backdrop to take centre stage. In winter, earthy tones work well with the look of the rustic twisting vines. Soft, flowing fabrics complement the organic environment all year round and lighting can transform the space once the sun goes down into a twilight wonderland with a few twinkling fairy lights.
